The choice of leathers: our requirement for little feet
At Pom d'Api, quality begins with the choice of materials. Since the leather comes into direct contact with your child’s foot, it is carefully selected for its suppleness, durability, comfort, and ability to age well.
Leather: A Recycled Material
The leather we use is a recycled material: it comes from hides sourced from the industry. By repurposing them, we give them a second life rather than leaving them unused.
This recycling process continues in our workshops: leather scraps from production are, whenever possible, reused rather than discarded, to further reduce material waste.
The tanneries we work with source their materials from European suppliers and pay particular attention to the quality and traceability of the hides.
Leather is a living material: each hide is unique, with its own identity and sometimes slight natural irregularities. Far from being flaws, these nuances are the hallmark of a noble and authentic material—and that’s what makes every pair of Pom d'Api shoes unique.
Carefully inspected leather
Because the leather is in constant contact with your child's foot, we ensure that our leathers comply with the European REACH regulation on chemicals. We also work with the CTC and UL Solutions to conduct tests on our materials.
Leather carefully selected to meet the highest standards
Our leathers come exclusively from Europe, from reputable tanneries, most of which are Leather Working Group (LWG) certified, such as Giemme and Gruppo Mastrotto. This certification evaluates, among other things, the tanneries’ environmental practices.
In particular, we prefer full-grain leather, which comes from the top layer of the hide. Since it undergoes minimal processing, it retains its natural qualities and offers excellent durability, while developing a unique patina over time.
Limited-edition collections, to showcase the materials
We give new life to certain existing leathers by using them to create limited-edition collections. It’s a way to make the most of available materials while minimizing waste.
For some of our premium models, we also use leathers sourced from luxury brands. This allows us to offer even the smallest feet the same high-quality materials typically reserved for the runway, without ever compromising on the comfort and durability that are the hallmarks o Pom d'Api.
