Making a success of your first steps
At Shoemakers, we know that everything starts with your child's first steps. It's the starting point for his confidence. His first success, when he finally stands on his own two feet and walks straight and smiling. That's why we've been helping your children walk for almost 50 years. We study shapes and reinforcements for perfect support, select the finest materials and fine-tune finishes for irreproachable comfort.

A fundamental stage in a child's development
To succeed in walking, children go through a succession of stages that help them stimulate and develop their muscles, gain tone, improve coordination and find balance.
Sitting up, crawling, belly-down, crawling are all possible processes. Every child is different, and each develops his or her own mode of movement. Sometimes one after the other, sometimes in combination.
Then it's time for the first steps, when he puts one foot in front of the other and runs off straight and smiling. It's an important step, but one that shouldn't be rushed. The foot is a highly sensitive organ that gathers and transmits an enormous amount of information necessary for the child's learning process.

Supporting your child's first steps
●︎ Let him take his time developing his walking. Every child learns to walk at his own pace. Only when he has gained enough assurance and confidence can he begin to stand and walk.
●︎ Leave him barefoot as much as possible inside the house. This will enable him to better feel the floor, its roughness, to perfect his balance and develop his proprioception.
●︎ Choosing good first-step shoes. First-step shoes must be comfortable and sufficiently flexible so that your child is not hindered in learning to walk. Even the slightest discomfort can cause imbalance, deformity, problems with walking and support, or even a fall.
